Central govt approves over 1000 crore assistance to drought-hit Maharashtra

A high level committee examined the proposal, based on the report of a centrally-instituted team that had visited the state before

The central government, on September 28, approved the release of Rs.1269 crores, as assistance, for the drought-hit coastal state of Maharashtra.

The approval for the central assistance package was given by the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, during a meeting in New Delhi.

A high level committee examined the proposal, based on the report prepared by a central team that had visited Maharashtra earlier.

The committee approved the assistance of Rs 1,269 crore, out of which Rs.589.47 crore would be provided as supplementary assistance for the damaged Kharif crop, and another Rs 679.54 crore for the damaged Rabi crops.

Several union ministers inlcuding the Agriculture Minister, Radha Mohan Singh, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, Union Home Secretary, Rajiv Mehrishi, attended the meeting along with other senior officers from their ministries.
