'Gravity' tops weekend box office charts with $55.55 mln earnings

The Sandra Bullock and George Clooney starrer space drama, 'Gravity', has climbed to the top position at the weekend box office chart with 55.55 million dollars weekend earnings, according to reports.

The Warner Bros. film was also able to cash 27.4 million dollars overseas, beating Sony's 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2', which rolled down to the second position with just 21.5 million dollars, Fox News reported.

Twentieth Century Fox's 'Runner Runner,' featuring Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, opened in third place with 7.6 million dollars, while Warner Bros.' 'Prisoners' was placed on the fourth position, followed by Chris Hemsworth starrer 'Rush', whereas 'Don Jon' secured sixth place with 4.16 million dollars.

The top box office grosser of this weekend are:
