At least 30 people were killed when a large truck rammed into a crowd gathered on a dark highway in western Guatemala on Wednesday night.
Fox News quoted the local fire department spokesman, Cecilio Chacaj, as saying that people had gathered on the highway to see a person who had been killed in a separate accident when the semi-trailer slammed into them.
The accident took place near the municipality of Nahula in Solola province, he added.
"It seems that the semi-trailer did not notice the number of the people on the roadway and ran them over. So far there are at least 30 bodies at the site."Chacaj said.
Meanwhile, Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales tweeted his condolences over the tragedy. He also assured the people that the government would coordinate aid to the families of the deceased.
