Cricketer Hardik Pandya on Wednesday issued an apology for his comments on the celebrity chat show 'Koffee With Karan'.
Pandya, who shared the couch with teammate KL Rahul on the latest episode of Karan Johar's show, was facing backlash for what netizens termed as 'sexist' and 'disrespectful' remarks on women.
On the show, he bragged about not asking the names of women at parties and how he watched them move on the dance floor.
The 25-year-old took to social media to post he 'may have got a bit carried away with the nature of the show'.
"After reflecting on my comments on Koffee with Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way. Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show. In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone's sentiments. Respect," Pandya wrote.
Here's what the tweeple wrote as soon as the show aired.
"Watching Koffee with Karan (or however you spell it) with Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul and the toxic masculinity and racism egged on by Karan Johar's giggles are the reason why Indian men are encouraged to unapologetically misogynistic. Unfortunate!(sic)," wrote one user.
Another user shared, "Too much chivalry expected from a person who I think, can't even spell misogyny, let alone understand or act according to the meaning of it. #HardikPandya #KWK"
"It might have been fun initially to watch two young sportsmen letting their guards down, but the obnoxious and misogynist attitude of Hardik Pandya just was too much to take in. At one time, cricket was called a gentleman's sport. Where has all the class gone? #KoffeeWithKaran," wrote another Twitter user.
