In an act of bravery, a policeman saved a man who climbed to the top of a cable bridge in Haridwar in an inebriated state. The man was an attendee of the Kanwar yatra.
Speaking to ANI, Amit Chauhan, sub-inspector in City Patrol Unit of Uttarakhand Police, on Friday said, "The man was intoxicated, had he fallen he would have died. Without waiting for the rescue team to arrive, I rescued him myself."
The Kanwar Yatra began on the occasion of Shravan Purnima on July 17 and will continue till August 15. The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage of Lord Shiva's devotees.
The Kanwariyas (pilgrims) visit Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand and Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch holy waters of River Ganga. Later, the holy water is used to dispense as offerings to Lord Siva.
