Heavy snowfall and the freezing cold has thrown normal life out of gear in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir and upper reaches of Uttarakhand.
Cold weather persisted in most parts of north India with mercury dipping in several areas in the plains due to the impact of northerly cold winds.
In Jammu and Kashmir, intermittent snowfall continued in upper reaches of Kashmir Valley even as the mercury plummeted by several degrees, intensifying cold wave.
The fresh snowfall prompted the authorities to issue a medium danger avalanche warning for high altitude areas, while snow clearance operation was on to restore snapped road links and provide basic amenities like power and water to the people, officials said.
Leh was the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir. MeT official said in Srinagar that the weather is likely to remain mainly dry in Kashmir Valley in the next three days.
In Uttarakhand, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel were seen clearing the snow from the roads using bulldozers in Gangotri region.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, the maximum temperature settled at 24.4 degrees Celsius, nearly two notches down while the minimum was 9.7 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year.
