Helen Flanagan has been caught shoplifting 200-pound worth of items from Boots.

The 22-year-old model left a store in Brighton city centre with a full basket and was caught by a store security guard, who also threatened to call police, the Mirror reported.

The former Coronation street favourite, who risked a ban from the chain of shops, insisted to security that she intended to pay for the goods, which included beauty items.

Flanagan claims that she was in a bit of a daydream and thus walked out of the shop as she was feeling hot and flustered. That's when security came up to her, saying, 'excuse me, Boots security'.

"I looked down and I had 200-pound worth of items in my basket," she said.

She said that the incident was awful and was absolutely mortifying.

Flanagan said that she escaped with a ban and afterwards paid for the goods.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the chain said that Boots UK take incidences of shoplifting very seriously, but they are also aware that genuine mistakes do happen.

The spokesman confirmed that there was no police involvement at the time and no legal repercussions have followed.

The spokesman added that the young lady was not banned from their stores and they have contacted her to clear up any confusion over the matter.
