England boss Roy Hodgson has revealed that he does not wishes his players a happy birthday as he regards those things as being 'flippant'

Hodgson said that neither he wishes his players happy birthday nor they wish him when he was asked a question about the same in light of the recent stories concerning Yaya Toure and Manchester City's alleged lack of action when the midfielder turned 31.

According to The Guardian, Hodgson said that he regards such exchange of greetings as being flippant, and does not feel that it has anything to do with being a professional footballer.

Hodgson said that he does not interfere in his squad's private lives.

However, the Englishman said that he could only congratulate Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal for being appointed as Manchester United's new manager.
