Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung has warned pro-democracy protesters to restrain from returning to the clash sites after some of the worst clashes between police and the activists.

Police cleared the activists from the Admiralty district where they clashed, armed with pepper spray, batons and water hoses, reported the BBC.

Meanwhile a prominent student leader Joshua Wong announced that they would start a hunger strike to demand renewed talks with the Hong Kong government.

On Monday, the government offices were briefly shut while police tried to clear the clash sites.

Police had dismantled one of the major protest camps in Hong Kong's Mong Kok district last week and made 100 arrests.

The students are protesting against China's decision to vet candidates in Hong Kong's 2017 elections.
