Pakistan's official investigation revealed that the country's military and government missed several opportunities to approach the world's most wanted man, Osama bin Laden.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the hunt for Osama might have ended eight years earlier, if the Pakistani traffic policeman had spotted him in his car that he had stopped for speeding.

The Abbottabad Commission concluded that a collective and sustained negligence of duty by the political, military and intelligence leadership of the country kept them away from the al-Qaeda leader.

The report did not rule out the possible involvement of rogue elements within the Pakistani intelligence service itself.
