The husband of the Christian woman, who had been sentenced to death by a Sudanese court, said that his wife would not renounce her faith despite her ordeal due to her strong convictions.

In a bizarre event that drew international condemnation, a judge in Khartoum sentenced 27-year-old Meriam Yehya Ibrahim to death by hanging, as she would not surrender her faith in Christianity.

According to Fox News, Ibrahim, whose Christian husband Daniel Wani holds an American citizenship, has been in the prison for three months along with her 20-month old son.

Desperate to bring his wife and son home, Wani said that when his wife's ordeal begun he went to the US embassy to report the case but was instead asked to go to the UN because his wife was not American.

Wani, who is a doctor, further appealed that pressure should be put on the Sudanese government to release his wife and son.

Reports have further revealed that US lawmakers such as GOP Senators. Marco Rubio and Kelly Ayotte have pressed the Obama administration to grant asylum to Ibrahim.
