Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was accorded traditional welcome by the Fijian tribe at Albert Park here on Wednesday, said the tradition of friendship and hospitality shown by the host nation reflects the unity of values between New Delhi and Suva.

"After this ceremony, I do not feel like a visitor; I feel that I belong here," Prime Minister Modi said.

"Your gracious presence here, Prime Minister (Josiah Bainimarama), has reaffirmed that feeling. Thank you for being here, thank you for your hospitality," he added.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his delight at the warm welcome given to him on his arrival in Fiji.

"I am deeply honoured and moved by the warm welcome as I stepped on the ground here in Fiji. After this ceremony, I am reminded once again of how enchanting our world is," said Prime Minister Modi.

"It is beautiful because of the richness and diversity of traditions and customs of the world, because of the serene beauty of the places like Fiji. Above all, it is beautiful because of power of highest human values of love, respect and friendship to overcome divisions and differences," he added.

Prime Minister further said it's time to cater two sovereign nations into an inter-linked region, which share aspirations and common challenges.

"We built co-operation between our two countries and an international partnership on many issues of common interest," he added.

"As I landed here I was greeted by a new sunrise. This will also be a new day and a new beginning in our relations. Thank you for welcoming me," he added.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Fiji earlier this morning on the third and final leg of his 10-day three-nation tour. He was received by Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama at Suva International Airport.

Prime Minister Modi was given a ceremonial guard of honour at the airport after which he attended the traditional welcome ceremony at the Albert Park.
