Indian Test cricket skipper Virat Kohli has insisted that it would be an exciting challenge for his young team to take on Sri Lanka in the forthcoming Test series, and added that there was no need to make any changes in his batting style.
"It's basically my first full assignment as Test captain. In Bangladesh we had one odd Test Match and it wasn't a full-fledged series. So, it's a new challenge for me and the whole team because we have such a young squad and so many new players are looking to build their careers. It is an exciting challenge to start as a new unit, it is exciting for me and the whole team. The team is very happy and putting in all the effort to do well in Test cricket. I am certain that if we prepare well and if we have the right kind of vision, we will do really well in Sri Lanka and I am very confident of the whole team and hopefully I can do the job given to me by the BCCI and the faith that has been shown by them over all these years," Kohli told ANI.
"As a batsman, I have always been very responsible the way I play cricket and it comes from wanting to win the game for the team every time I play. So, I don't think I need to change too much in that aspect. And I guess this was the main reason that the board thought that I could be the man to take up the responsibility of the team... I always want to give 100 percent. Putting in that extra effort, I don't think is required because I have always played in a responsible way for the team and I will continue to do that till I play for my country," he added.
Kohli, who featured in the second unofficial Test against Australia A, said that he decided to play in order to get some momentum for the Sri Lanka series and to learn from a calming personality like Rahul Dravid, who had been one of the greats of the game.
He also stressed on the fact that the weather always play a huge role in the island nation and, therefore, the team would make plans and figure out when they meet in Chennai and then in Sri Lanka.
