I worry about politics of hate that's presently sweeping India: Manmohan Singh

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on Thursday spoke strongly against communal politics in the country, and said that he believed was its 'sweeping the country' at present.

"Well, I and all sane persons should be worried about the politics of hate which is now sweeping our country," Dr. Singh said onboard Air India One on his return home from Beijing.

Dr. Singh also assured that the Central Government would take all possible security measures to ensure that Rahul Gandhi's life was secure, after the Congress number two said that there is possibility that he could also be killed the way his grandmother and father were killed.

"As regards, the threat to the life of Rahul Gandhi, Government will take all possible precautions that this threat does not materialize," Dr. Singh said.

Targetting the BJP earlier today, the Congress number two alleged that the BJP is solely interested in gathering votes, while it is left to the ruling party to cool down the anger that survives in the aftermath of communal violence.

"They ignited the fire. Who does the work of dousing the flames of such communal riots? Wherever they go, they ignite the fire. They don't see the harm they are doing to the nation, they are only concerned with winning elections. It is their plan. It is the Congress who does the work of dousing the flames," Gandhi said.

In an emotionally-charged speech in Churu, Rajasthan, Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday recalled the assassinations of his grandmother Indira Gandhi and his father Rajiv Gandhi, and targetted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for playing divisive politics, and said he was not afraid if communal anger and hatred killed him someday.

"They (communal elements) have killed my grandmother, they have killed my father and maybe someday they will kill me as well. But I don't care," Gandhi said in Churu on Wednesday.

Further, the Congress vice president explained that the reason he spoke strongly against the BJP's method of politics was because his own experience made him understand the extreme consequences of hatred and anger.
