IAS officer's death: Karnataka Congress requests Siddaramaiah for CBI probe

Karnataka Pradesh Congress president G Parameshwara on Saturday requested Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to order a CBI inquiry into IAS officer Dr. D.K. Ravi's death case and said that the truth in this matter should come to the fore without any confusion.

"We should bring out the truth, whether it was a suicide or murder. Opposition parties should also cooperate in finding truth. They shouldn't create confusion or try to take political advantage. Many members of the Parliament from Karnataka demanded a CBI inquiry. I request the chief minister once again that CBI probe be initiated," said Parameshwara.

Earlier in the day, former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy criticized Siddaramaiah-led Karnataka Government for floating baseless stories to cover up the death case of IAS officer DK Ravi and said that the findings of the investigation should not be made public until a chargesheet has been filed in the matter.

Siddaramaiah is believed to have decided to refer the IAS officer's death probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Chief Minister, who is expected to announce the CBI probe into the IAS officer's death on the floor of the state assembly on Monday, had earlier been advised by Congress president Sonia Gandhi to do the same.

Ravi, who was an Additional Commissioner on deputation with the Commercial Tax department, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his house last Monday.

His death has resulted in widespread protests all over Karnataka, with political parties, predominantly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), calling for a CBI investigation into the matter.
