The International Cricket Council (ICC) has ordered New Zealand part-time spinner Kane Williamson to undergo official scrutiny within 21 days as he was reported for a suspected illegal bowling action.

The ICC statement said that Williamson was reported following New Zealand's 10-wicket defeat in the second test to the West Indies in Trinidad.

According to Sport24, match referee Chris Broad has handed New Zealand officials a copy of the umpires' report citing concerns over a number of deliveries they considered to be suspect, and saying that they believed that Williamson's action needed to be tested.

A bowler is allowed no more than 15 degrees of flex in the elbow during deliver as per cricket's rules.

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said that whether the part-time spinner is close to the 15-degree mark, seems to be the criteria.

Hesson added if Williamson is less than that he would be passed fit to carry on as per normal, if not then there would be need for some remedial action to take place.

Hesson further added that he does not think that it has been completely unexpected and they are fully supportive of going through the process.
