The International Cricket Council (ICC) has said it will monitor political violence in Bangladesh ahead of next year's ICC World Twenty20 in the troubled country but is "happy" for now with arrangements.

The Dawn quoted Chris Tetley, ICC's event manager, as saying there would be a "continual review" of planning for the March-April tournament in view of the turmoil that has left dozens of people dead in street protests around the country.

Tetley was interacting with media after carrying out a final inspection of cricket stadiums in Dhaka and Fatullah.

About 52 people have died so far in the opposition-sponsored violence , which has paralysed large parts of the country.

The opposition announced this week that it was boycotting elections scheduled for January 5, unless Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigns before hand, plunging the country into renewed political turmoil.

The ICC team will inspect facilities in Chittagong on Tuesday and Sylhet on Wednesday.
