The Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi has established an in-house think tank to strengthen the knowledge infrastructure of the Supreme Court and initiate the process of enhancing its knowledge needs.

"The knowledge needs of the judiciary is rapidly expanding. The range, content, and complexity of issues that are adjudicated in our court is growing exponentially. To meet these knowledge needs, the judiciary requires a strong knowledge and intellectual infrastructure," Gogoi said while addressing the media.

The CJI stressed that the main mandate of the think-tank would be to carry out cutting-edge research into fundamental jurisprudence and doctrines of law.

The think-tank network will create and strengthen institutional knowledge as a permanent resource for judges and also for the broader legal community, he added.

In another development, the Supreme Court on Thursday was bought on the tourist map. The guided one-hour tour of the apex court is free of cost and citizens can do the bookings through the web portal.

The pre-planned visits can be organised subject to online booking, made in advance. The visitors will be accompanied throughout the premises and introduced to parts of historic importance.

The timings of the tour will be from 10 am to 1 pm every Saturday as no hearings are held in the apex court on Saturday.
