Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday condemned the attack in Tinsukia, where United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) terrorists killed five people and directed the law enforcement agencies to take stern action against the perpetrators.
The attack took place around 7 pm on Thursday in Bishnoimukh village near Dhola-Sadiya bridge in Tinsukia district. The victims were identified as Ananta Namasudra, Abinash Namasudra, Subal Das, Dhanai Namasudra and Syamal Biswas.
"We will take the strongest action against perpetrators of this heinous crime. I have directed all law enforcing agencies to maintain peace and take stern action against anybody trying to destabilise our peaceful society and state," Sonowal said.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly condemned the attack and slammed the BJP-led government saying, "Is this the outcome of recent NRC development? We have no words to express our deep sorrow to grieving families. Perpetrators must be punished at the earliest."
This comes after ULFA-I claimed responsibility for a bomb blast in Guwahati on October 13, in which five people were injured.
