In Rajasthan, Shah equates BJP to 'foot of Angad'

Making a comparison between the immovable foot of Angad- a mythological character- and the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) presence in poll-bound Rajasthan, the party's national president Amit Shah on Tuesday said that nobody can oust BJP from the state.

Addressing a public rally in Jalore, the BJP chief said, "In Rajasthan, BJP is the foot of Angad, nobody can remove it." According to the epic Ramayana, nobody was able to lift Angad's foot in the court of Ravana.

Shah added that after 2014, when Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, the Congress was dethroned in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat.

Comparing the funds given to Rajasthan by the Congress and the BJP governments during their respective tenures, Shah said, "The UPA gave only Rs 1, 09,000 crores to Rajasthan. After Modi became the Prime Minister, he gave Rs 2, 65,000 crores to Rajasthan. Apart from these, Rs 36,000 crore was given through various schemes."

Shah also asserted that around 40 lakh people were given gas connections under the Ujjwala scheme, while 13 lakh people were provided houses in the state.

Shah charged the previous governments with taking a soft stand towards terrorism. "Earlier, anyone used to come over from Pakistan and spread violence. When terrorists attacked Uri, they forgot it was Modi government. Our forces went inside Pakistan and carried out surgical strikes," the parliamentarian said

Continuing his tirade against the Congress, he said that the party is more worried about infiltrators than its own people. "Elect BJP in 2019 again, and we will drive out each and every infiltrator. Our party came to power in the Centre and Assam, and we immediately started the NRC drive to identify infiltrators. The Congress was more worried about infiltrators than its own people," he added.

The 200-member Rajasthan Assembly is scheduled to go to polls on December 7 and counting of votes will take place on December 11.
