India - Olympic Results - Day 1 - August 5

India had an average day on Day one of its participation in the summer Olympics being held in the Brazilian city of Ro de Janeiro. Following are the results

Hockey:

Group B Preliminary: India 3 (V.R. Raghunath 15th minute, Rupinder Pal Singh 27th and 49th) defeated Ireland 2 (John Jermyn 45th), Conor Harte 56th).

Shooting:

Men's 10-metre Air Pistol (Final):

Hoang Xuan Vinh (Vietnam) 202,5 points - Gold; Felipe Almeida Wu (Brazil) 202.1 points- Silver; Pang Wei (China) 180.4 points - Bronze.

Also Read

India's Jitu Rai finished eighth. He was the first to be eliminated in final with score of 78.7 points. In qualification round, Gurpreet Singh finished 20th on 576 points. The first eight from qualification round went into the final.

Women's 10-metre Air Pistol (Qualification round):

Apurvi Chandela finished 34th with score of 411.6 points (4 shots).

Ayonika Paul finished 47th with 403 points (4 shots).

Both Indian girls failed to qualify for final.

Rowing:

Singles Skulls Dattu Bhokanal finished third in heat of singles sculls to qualify for the quarterfinals. He clocked a combined time of 7:21.67 (seven minutes 21.67 seconds) over the three distances (500M, 1,000M and 1,500M).

Tennis:

Men's Doubles (first round): Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna (India) lost to Lukasz Kubot and Marci Matsowski (Poland) 4-6, 6-7.

Women's Doubles (first round): Sania Mirza and Prarthana Thombare (India) lost to Peng Shuai and Zhang Shuai (China) 6-7 (6), 7-5, 5-7

Table Tennis:

Men's Singles (first round): Achanta Sharat Kamal (India) lost to ADRIAN CRISAN (Romania) 8-11, 12-14, 11-9, 6-11, 8-11; Soumyajit Ghosh (India) lost to Padasak Tanviriyavechakul (Thailand) 8-11, 6-11, 14-12, 6-11, 11-13.

Women's Singles (first round): Manika Batra (India) lost to Katarzyna Grzybowska-Franc (Poland) 12-10, 6-11, 12-14, 11-8, 4-11, 12-14; Mouma Das (India) lost to Daniela Monteiro Dodean (Romania) 2-11, 7-11, 7-11, 3-11.

Weightlifting:

Women's 48 kg: Mirabai Chanu (India) crashed out of the contest, finishing without a score (weight) to her credit as she faltered with all her three lifts in clean and jerk. She had earlier lifted 82 kg in snatch.
