India needs 153 more runs to win the opening Galle Test with two full days remaining.
India will resume its second innings from its overnight score of 23 for 1 against Sri Lanka today.
When the stumps were drawn on Friday, Shikhar Dhawan was batting on 13 along with night watchman Ishant Sharma on 5. India lost the wicket of opener Lokesh Rahul on Friday evening shortly before the close of play.
Earlier on Friday, middle-order Lankan batsman Dinesh Chandimal scored a battling 162 not out that helped the Sri Lankans post a second innings total of 367 and also allowed the home side to avoid an innings defeat.
At one stage on Friday, Sri Lanka were at a precarious 95 for the loss of five wickets. India's off-spinner R. Ashwin, who snapped up six wickets in the first innings of the Sri Lankans, grabbed four of the five wickets to fall in their second innings, to claim ten wickets in the match.
The Galle Test is the first game of a three-match Test series between the two sides.
