Ace Indian shuttlers Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa crashed out of the World Championship after losing quarter-final match against Naoko Fukuman and Kurumi Yonao in Jakarta on Friday.
The Indian duo of Jwala and Ashwini suffered a 23-25, 14-21 defeat against the unseeded Japanese pair in a contest that lasted over 46 minutes.
Despite giving a neck-to-neck competition in the first set, the 11th seed Indian pair wilted under pressure in the next set.
Gutta-Ponappa had won a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championship.
