Indian politicos want Nepal Govt. to resolve issues of Madheshis

With the Madheshi leaders meeting the politicians in the national capital on Sunday, Congress leader P.L. Punia said the Nepal Government needs to resolve the protest against the new Constitution.

"The Madheshis are coming to India for an exchange of dialogue which is good, but they should keep in mind that ultimately the issue need to be resolved by the Nepal Government. We should include in discussion through diplomatic channels," Punia told ANI.

"We have old ties with Nepal and we never differentiated between India and Nepal. Our Gorkha regiment also constitute the people from Nepal and they protect our country. The situation is very much unfortunate," he added.

Echoing similar sentiments, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the Madheshi leaders will speak their minds during their meeting with the Indian politicians.

Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja said the Government of India has agreed to discuss the situation in Nepal.

With the standoff between the Nepal Government and Madhesi protestors refusing to die down, Nepal Sadbhavana Party (NSP) president Rajendra Mahato on Saturday said four leaders of Madhesi morcha would be meeting top Indian leaders and representatives of the Government of Indian in the national capital to discuss how the relationship between the two nations can be improved.

"There is a lot of confusion regarding the Madheshi protest. We are protesting against the Nepal Government for our rights, and India has nothing to do with this," said Mahato.

Earlier, India had urged Nepal to find urgent solution to political problems facing the Himalayan nation, while clarifying that there is no hindrance to supplies from the Indian side.
