The Director General for Asia, Africa and Latin America and Special Representative of the German government for Afghanistan, Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser visited New Delhi from October 17-19 for consultations on regional cooperation in the Heart of Asia.
Ministry of External Affairs' Joint Secretary for Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran (PAI) Gopal Baglay exchanged views with Ambassador Sparwasser, especially on the situation in Afghanistan and on opportunities for the Indo-German cooperation.
The two also focused on preparing the Heart of Asia Conference to be hosted by India in Amritsar at the beginning of December.
Further, Ambassador Sparwasser also discussed the political situation in the region and Indo-German bilateral relations with a number of interlocutors from the Indian Government and representatives of German foundations and NGO partners.
During her visit to Delhi, she also called on Foreign Secretary Jaishankar, who is scheduled to visit Berlin for consultations with his German counterpart in late November.
