England bowler Tim Bresnan is set to prove that he is back to his best in the squad for the Test series against New Zealand after undergoing elbow surgery, adding that he will not forced to play the role of a waiter carrying the drinks.

According to the Mirror, Bresnan is determined to prove his fitness and worth to captain Alastair Cook for the epic summer containing a back-to-back Ashes series, adding that the Yorkshire bowler is also out to show that he deserves selection for the 1st Investec Test at Lord's.

Stating that he is back in the squad to play the game and throw his hat in the ring for selection, Bresnan said that he is hoping that the practice sessions at the net will tell the management and Cook about his capability and fitness.

Although Bresnan has his work cut out to force himself into the side ahead of Steven Finn, he said that he is not worried as the fact that he is in the squad is reason enough for him to be cheerful and thankful, adding that the realization that he could have played his last game for England had already hit him before surgery.

According to Bresnan, a player has to weigh up that risk and then decide whether he wants to play again or leave the game, adding that he is happy to be injury free and feeling that he can play to the best of his ability.
