England fast bowler Liam Plunkett has been roped in by Delhi Daredevils as a replacement for injured South African Kagiso Rabada for the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), beginning April 7.
Top-ranked Rabada, who was brought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 4.2 crores, had earlier complained of strain in the culminating fourth Test in Johannesburg and bowled only eight overs in Australia's second innings.
South Africa's team manager Mohammad Moosajee later informed that a subsequent scan revealed a lower back stress reaction injury, which would keep the 22-year-old out of action for up to three months.
In Rabada's absence, Plunkett has been bought by the Delhi-based franchise from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) list.
Plunkett, who has featured in 13 Tests, 65 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 15 T20 Internationals for England so far, will make his first appearance in the IPL.
Daredevils will kick start their IPL 2018 campaign with a match against the Kings XI Punjab at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium on April 8.
