Iran lodges strong protest with Pakistan over killing of 14 border guards

Iran has asked Pakistan to take measures to control the border more seriously.

The call from Iran comes as it lodged a strong protest over the martyrdom of its 14 border guards in a terrorist incident that occurred at zero point of the two countries' international borders on Friday.

The managing director of West Asia Office of the Foreign Ministry received Iran's letter, through its charge d'affaires in Tehran, on the terrorist attack launched from Pakistan's soil against the Iranian border guards, the Nation reports.

According to the report, as many as 14 Iranian border guards were martyred by a terrorist group on Friday at zero point of Iran-Pakistan international borders in Saravan region and seven others wounded.

During the meeting of Iranian officials with the charge d'affaires, Iran seriously asked Pakistan to act in accordance with the articles of the Security Cooperation Pact between the two countries and hand over the culprits who have fled to Pakistan.

The charge d'affires of Pakistan in Tehran expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of the border guards of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He said the matter would be referred to the Pakistan government in the shortest possible time so that appropriate measures could be taken in this regard.

Meanwhile, a Sunni militant group, Jaish-ul-Adl, has claimed responsibility for an attack that killed 14 Iranian border guards in the country's mountainous southeast.

The group called the Jaish-ul-Adl (Army of Justice) said on its website that it was behind Friday's attack, calling it a 'severe blow' to the Iranian government.
