An Islamic State (IS) outfit based in northeastern Syria has reportedly been planning to abduct more Westerners and others in neighboring countries since last year, a source said.

According to the CNN, intelligence suggested that the IS intends to go into countries such as Lebanon and Jordan and bring back hostages who will then be used in propaganda videos.

After releasing at least seven highly publicized video clips showing the gruesome killing of hostages, the terror outfit may be keen on seeking more hostages.

An expert said that the report may be true as the huge number of refugees streaming out of Syria into Jordan and Lebanon could provide the terrorists cover at the border. The group may also attempt to capture aid workers at the refugee camps, he said.

Lt. Col. Rick Francona, a retired airman and a former U.S. military attache in Syria, said that there are many IS "sympathisers" in northern Jordan, which borders Syria.

Experts pointed out that another big concern could be that other groups could abduct people and sell them off to IS.
