Islamic State militants have launched 15 new attacks on the territory of Kurdish forces in northern Iraq on Monday sparking renewed push for the region, said officials.
According to CNN, IS fighters also attacked the strategic Mosul dam and the Sinjar mountain range in northern Iraq.
An IS military truck loaded with explosives was aimed at a Peshmerga checkpoint beside the security belt that encircles the dam.
According to Peshmerga spokesman Said Mamazeen, at least six security force members were killed in the attacks and seven were seriously injured.
Attacks on the Nineveh Valley near the dam were repelled by Peshmerga forces with the help of European and American weapons' aid, said a spokesman.
Another Kurdish military official said that it would be difficult for IS to take control of the dam because of a large number of Peshmerga forces in the area.
