Israel has declared that it has resumed air strikes on Gaza after Hamas militants launched rockets on the former following the expiry of a three-day long truce.

The Israeli army denounced the renewed attack as unacceptable, intolerable and short-sighted, reported the BBC.

Militant group Hamas had earlier rejected an extension of the 72-hour long truce saying that they will continue to fight unless Israel lifts the economic blockade on Gaza.

According to a latest United Nations estimate, at least 1,890 Palestinians have died in the offensive that began on July 8.
