In lieu of the difficulties faced by the taxpayers in filing income tax returns, the deadline for the same has been postponed till August 5, for the financial year 2016-17.
The official website for filing the returns was undergoing a decline in speed, owing to the volume of taxpayers filing for returns.
In due consideration, the Income Tax Department (ITD) notified an extension in the deadline, which was fixed for today (July 31).
Earlier on Saturday, the IT Department had denied a proposal to extend the last date for filing returns.
The date however, was to remain as July 31, and taxpayers were suggested to ensure complete adherence to norms and timely completion of the procedure.
