It's time we declare whether Pakistan is an enemy or a friend: Dr. Ajay Sahni

Dr. Ajay Sahni, Executive Director, Institute for Conflict Management, and an expert on counter-terrorism, has described Pakistan as a nation of suicide bombers.

Dr. Sahni, who was taking part in a recent seminar organised by the Centre for Land and Warfare Studies (CLAWS), made it clear that Indians needed to understand the difference between the people of Pakistan and those in control of Pakistan.

He said, "The common people don't matter in Pakistan, only the leaders do. And, the leaders are the one who create a situation which leads people there to misfortune."

The above statement by Dr. Sahni can be very well understood in the context of the current political tension that is rising between the government, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT).

While the PTI is demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's resignation, the PAT wants a revolution in the country.

Emphasizing the need for establishing better relations between India and Pakistan, Dr.Sahni said, "Better relations will not solve the problem. The deep-rooted ideology of the political leaders and that of fundamentalists over India is what weighs. Until this same deep-rooted ideology is not fired back on the Jihadis, those who are bringing it up, nothing will change."

Dr.Sahni said that Pakistan is on a suicide course, and there are only two things that can be done to it. One, India assists Pakistan in committing suicide, and during that course, it will realise that it doesn't want to die and stop.

Second, give money or aid to them to turn the country a secular democratic republic state. And as second is not completely possible even in India, so, demanding the same from Pakistan is out of question.

Dr.Sahni said, "Constant blaming of Balochistan disappearances on India is utter nonsense, if you see the Baloch literature it is clear that all the disappearance are organised by the Pakistan army, frontier core, ISI or by some of their proxies." He mentioned that India has no sustained diplomatic trust on its neighbours or this kind of violence, the entire establishment discourse of Pakistan is controlled by anti-India posture.

He emphasised that India should isolate Pakistan considering it a pariah rogue state, and should also stop sending aid of any kind to them.

Dr. Sahni adds, "India better make it clear that it will not deal with abnormal pathological state structure and not have a soft corner for them, just because they are our neighbours. We try to be soft and out of which we gain nothing."

Talking about infiltration and ceasefire violations he said that, India needs to cost Pakistan for it, like direct retaliation in terms of constitutional decay and threat that their structure will be collapsed. He further added that it is time that India needs to make it clear whether Pakistan is our friend or our enemy.

"State funding of Jamat-ud-Dawa is not being raised by India in the United Nations because India is disastrously incompetent, unequipped and under resourced. The entire system is under resourced. This kind of ridicules policy has under mined the situation," he said.
