Japanese Emperor Akihito and his wife Empress Michiko will arrive here on a six-day visit beginning November 30 to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
The Royal couple will visit India at the invitation of President Pranab Mukherjee.
The Emperor and Empress of Japan will visit Delhi and Chennai.
"This is the first time that an Emperor and Empress of Japan will visit India. The visit will immeasurably expand and strengthen the India - Japan Strategic and Global Partnership," the Ministry of External Affairs said.
They had visited India as Crown Prince and Crown Princess in 1960.
