Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar on Friday expressed his displeasure over the manner in which the opposition is stalling proceedings in the Rajya Sabha over the Indian Government not inclined to give a response on the Gaza issue.

"Today, disrupting the Rajya Sabha by the opposition is not good, because the government has already accepted the demand to discuss the issue on Gaza on Monday. When we are discussing that issue threadbare on Monday, there is no case for disruption of house today. Today, is the private member's resolution, there are questions hours, two statements by the ministers it should be conducted. I hope that collective wisdom will prevail and they will allow the functioning to be smooth, because that is the essence of democracy," Javadekar said.

"We have already agreed to, if the government had been adamant and not agreed to then there was a cause for action, but in this case there is no cause of action. That's the only reaction I can give at this point. We want to take everybody along, nobody should do politics out of such sensitive issues," the minister added.

A strident opposition led by the Congress and the Left parties on Friday reportedly stalled proceedings in Rajya Sabha during Question Hour demanding immediate discussion on killings of innocent women and children in Gaza.

While the government said it was ready for a discussion on the issue on Monday, the Opposition wanted it to be held immediately, leading to two adjournments till noon.
