The Delhi Akali Dal unit today staged a demonstration outside the Congress office here against Haryana Government's decision to form a separate Gurdwara committee for the state.

Amidst rain, scores of angry supporters and leaders of the party were seen carrying black flags as a mark of protest, and were seen chanting slogans against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led government in Haryana.

Many protestors tried to break the barricade that was put in place by the police in the area in order to prevent any untoward incident happening. Police had to resort to the use of water cannons to disperse the protesters.

Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management committee President , Jathedar Manjit Singh GK, said: "Sonia Gandhi and her family as well as the Hooda government which is running through ventilator cannot take decision in respect to Sikhs. We will ensure that their decision never get materialized. This family (Gandhi family) had always tried to harm the interests of the Sikhs, even her (Sonia Gandhi )mother-in-law also did the same mistake which had cost the nation, hence, we are here to explain and prevent her (Sonia) from undertaking the same path."

Last Friday the Haryana Assembly had passed the Haryana Sikh Gurdwaras (Management) Bill, 2014, paving the way for the setting up of a separate gurdwara prabandhak committee for the state, even as the main Opposition parties (INLD and BJP) staged a walkout over the contentious issue.

Meanwhile, a resolution against the Haryana government's decision was reportedly passed in the Punjab Legislative Assembly yesterday by voice vote seeking the Centre's intervention in "prohibiting any state to interfere in religious matter of other states".
