Janata Dal (United) leader K. C. Tyagi on Saturday condemned the Central Government's decision to abstain from voting on a resolution on Palestine adopted at the UN rights body that calls for accountability by parties involved in last year's conflict in Gaza, saying this move could affect India's relations with the Arab nations.

"The Prime Minister is going to Israel and he doesn't want to upset the Israeli Prime Minister. India has supported Israel in UNO for the first time in 60 years because of this India's relations with the Arab nations could be affected. I strongly condemn this move by the Government of India," Tyagi told ANI.

India abstained from a vote against Israel on the resolution which had welcomed the UN Human Rights Council report.

The report had found evidence of alleged war crimes committed by both Israel and Hamas during the Gaza conflict in 2014, particularly calling for accountability of Israeli officials.

India was one of the five countries, including Kenya and Macedonia, which abstained from voting on the resolution. 41 countries voted in favour, while the U.S. voted against.
