The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has confirmed the appointment of former Caribbean skipper Jimmy Adams as its new Director of Cricket on a three-year contract.

"Jimmy thinks the timing is right for his new role with the WICB," ESPNcricinfo quoted the WICB as saying.

The 49-year-old, who recently stepped down from the post of Kent head coach last October after four years in charge, has replaced Richard Pybus who decided to not renew his contract after serving the role for three years.

Jubilant with the appointment, Adams said that he is looking forward to contribute to the growth of the West Indies cricket.

"I am very excited to be directly involved in Caribbean cricket once again, and I look forward to working with all those committed to moving the game forward in the West Indies," he said.

Adams had previously served West Indies cricket in a variety of positions including as the country's U-19 team manager. He also received a lot of admiration for his work as a players' representative while serving as secretary of the West Indies Players

Association and president of the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations.

As far as his cricketing career is concerned, Adams appeared in a total of 54 Tests and 127 one-day internationals for West Indies and notched up more than 5000 runs in the two formats of the game.
