Johnson likely to miss World T20 with 'severely infected' big toe

Australian pace sensation Mitchell Johnson is reportedly expected to miss the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh starting later this month with a severely infected big toe on his right foot.

Although the left-arm pacer was due to leave on Sunday to join up with the Australian World Cup squad in Bangladesh ahead of the month-long tournament, his winter-long wave of Test cricket destruction has finally taken a toll.

According to News.com.au, Cricket Australia (CA) revealed that Johnson developed the infection after the third Test against South Africa and is receiving treatment, although it expressed hope that his departure to Bangladesh can be delayed until his toe has fully recovered.

The report mentioned that Johnson is on a heavy course of antibiotics and is understood to have been advised that he could be out of action for at least a month, adding that he is desperate to recover in time for the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) starting in mid-April.

Johnson's injury flared from nasty blisters on his feet and especially his right big toe, which is his front-landing foot in his explosive delivery stride and also spread into his right foot, which suffered hefty pounding through five consecutive Ashes Tests at home, the report added.
