Jonathan Trott calls curtains on international cricket post miserable Test return against Windies

England batsman Jonathan Trott has announced his retirement from international cricket after enduring a miserable three-match Test series as an opener against West Indies.

Trott made a comeback into the Test side for the Caribbean tour 18 months after leaving the Ashes tour in Australia with a stress-related condition. However, the retuning batsman could only manage to score 72 runs in six innings.

Reflecting on his decision, Trott said that it was a tough decision as he didn't feel his game was at the level needed to play for England, the BBC reported.

The Warwickshire right-hander also said that he was honoured to come back and play international cricket again but was disappointed it didn't work out.

Trott amassed 3,835 runs in 52 Tests, including a century on his debut in the 2009 Ashes decider.

The 2011 ICC player of the year also said that he wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone who had helped him and gave him the chance to represent England and to thank supporters for all their backing over the years.
