Umesh Yadav and Brad Hogg took two wickets each as the Kolkata Knight Riders beat Sun Risers Hyderabad by 35 runs at the Eden Gardens on Monday.
Put in to bat first, KKR were off to a flyer, as openers Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa scored 55 runs in the first six overs.
Towards the middle of the innings, KKR slowed down as they lost Uthappa, Andre Russel and Manish Pandey cheaply but Yusuf Pathan's 19 ball 30 at the end pushed the score to 167/7.
Karn Sharma was the pick of the SRH bowlers, taking 2 wickets for 29 runs.
Needing a strong start at a hostile Eden Gardens, SRH lost two wickets early on in their chase, as Umesh Yadav dismissed David Warner and Naman Ojha in the very first over.
Thereafter, the visiting team lost wickets at regular intervals, with the hosts not allowing them to settle down. Karn Sharma provided some fireworks towards the end, smashing a 20 ball 32, including three consecutive sixers off Johan Botha, but it was too little too late as SRH folded for 132 at the loss of 9 wickets.
