All rounder Chris Jordan helped England to beat Sri Lanka in the first one-day international by 81 runs on the basis of Duckworth-Lewis on Thursday.
Replying to England's score of 247 for 6 in 39 overs, Sri Lanka could only score 144 in 27.5 overs.
Jordan, according to the BBC, enhanced his growing reputation by first scoring an unbeaten 38 off 13 balls and then claiming 3-25.
Having impressed on England's limited-overs tour of West Indies earlier this year, Jordan seems certain to play a central role in the build-up to next year's World Cup.
Asked if Jordan was capable of playing Test cricket, England captain Alastair Cook said his four-day record was probably even better than his one-day record, and he seemed to have the right character for international cricket.
Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews described his side's performance as pretty poor.
England now face Sri Lanka in the second one-day international at Chester-le-Street on Sunday (May 25).
