Journalist death: Digvijay Singh calls for viscera samples to be examined at AIIMS

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Sunday mourned the demise of journalist Akshay Singh and called for the viscera samples taken to be examined by doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

"This is a sad incident that cannot be forgotten easily. He had met me, a strong young man, who was absolutely okay in the morning. How this suddenly happened, only the post mortem report can say. However, as far as the viscera samples are concerned, we do not have faith in the forensic science laboratory in Gujarat. The viscera should come to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and senior doctors should examine it under camera. The cause of death can only be determined after the post mortem," Digvijay Singh said.

"Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that he has no issues with a CBI inquiry. If that is true, then he must write to the Home Minister and ask for a CBI probe into the Vyapam scam," he added.

Akshay Singh, a journalist with the TV Today Group, died suddenly yesterday when he had gone to take an interview of the family of a slain Vyapam scam accused in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh.

Reports say that the journalist felt chest pain while he was taking the interview. He was taken to the Meghnagar hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Singh's post mortem report is still awaited. Chouhan assured that he will hand over the investigation of Singh's death to the SIT.

Meanwhile, Singh's body was brought to Nigambodh Ghat in the national capital for the final rites.
