Justin Bieber has apologized for visiting Yasukuni shrine which honours former military leaders from Japan's imperial army, who committed atrocities across Asia and the Pacific during World War II.

The teen icon posted a picture of notorious Yasukuni Shrine, captioning it "Thank you for your blessings."

The photograph gained 700,000 likes but was later removed by the singer followed by demands from his fans, the Mirror reported.

The 20-year-old Canadian singer wrote that he was misled to think that the shrines were a place of prayer; he also apologized to anyone he had offended.

Bieber added that he loves China and Japan.
