Juventus settle for small first-leg lead post 2-1 win against Borussia in CL last-16 tie

Spanish striker Alvaro Morata's careful finish helped Juventus settle for a narrow first-leg lead after they failed to capitalise on several good chances against Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League last-16 clash.

Carlos Tevez provided Juventus with the lead after Roman Weidenfeller spilled at his feet, but Dortmund struck back within five minutes when Marco Reus exploited Giorgio Chiellini's slip to scamper in and shoot home.

Morata's careful finish put the Italians back in front and the hosts could have stretched away in the second half, but failed to do so, the BBC reported.

After the break, Tevez went close on three occasions, Chiellini rose unmarked to head over the top and Roberto Pereyra shot just wide, but Juventus ultimately failed to exploit Dortmund's fragility and would take only a one-goal advantage to Germany.

The win took the Serie A champions' unbeaten home run to 47 games and they made the fast start that a simmering atmosphere at the Juventus Stadium demanded.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri said that in the domestic championship, they are used to having the ball for 70 percent of the game, adding that they are not used to not having the ball and defending, but claimed that in the second half they did both.

Allegri claimed that this match was a step forward for a team that wants to do well in Europe.

Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp said that he believes the result was fair, adding that his side had a good game in the first half, but admitted that they gave Juventus two goalscoring opportunities, which they didn't miss.
