In a rare achievement, boys and girls from India's northern state of Jammu and Kashmir excelled at a Taekwondo international competition in Bhutan, by winning medals.
Shuja Ahmad, an official of the Jammu and Kashmir Martial Arts Association, said: " A total 15 people participated and eight of them, including boys and girls, won medals."
Bronze medal winner Shamsu Nisa said: "I won bronze medal in Bhutan. I have also participated in the national tournament. I request all the girls to learn Taekwondo for their self protection."
The winners said that participation in such competition gave them encouragement and exposure.
"I am feeling great. We went to Bhutan to participate in the international event. I think we made our state and country proud in Bhutan," said a medal winner, Nisar Ahmad.
Besides India, players from Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Indonesia also participated in this championship.
