Former Australian Test opener Simon Katich has reportedly announced his retirement from cricket after the Big Bash League to take up a role as a player development co-ordinator with an Australian Football League club (AFL).
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Katich, who played 56 Tests and 266 first-class matches in his 18-year old career, said that he cannot complain as he had a good run.
The report mentioned that Katich did not play under current captain Michael Clarke, with whom he infamously had an altercation at the SCG after a day's play in 2009, and the cricketer said that he does not have any relationship with Clarke nowadays.
Former skipper Ricky Ponting had described Katich's axing from the Cricket Australia (CA) contract list in 2011 as 'as dumb a non-selection as any during his time in the Australian team'.
