Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday sought a report on the Rabea Girl's Public School case where 16 students were allegedly locked up in the basement of the school building for not clearing their fees.

The local police have registered a case against the school authorities under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. The investigation into the matter is underway.

Denying the allegations, Farah Diba, Headmistress of the school said that two teachers were given the responsibility to keep an eye on the children in the basement. She also stated that the school uses the basement as a play area for the students.

"Basement is where the children play; there were two teachers keeping a watch on them. They usually sit on the ground, and the fan had gone for repair that day. The allegations are all false," said Diba.

Calling the act inhumane, the parents told the ANI that their wards were made to sit on the floor in the basement from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm under scorching heat on Tuesday for non-clearance of the fees.

"If fees are not cleared, why are you punishing the kids? The girls were crying incessantly. We want the school authorities not to be inhumane," said Muhammad Khalid, one of the parents.

Many parents also claimed that when they reached the school at 12:30 pm to pick up their children, they were told that the children were locked in the basement.

The headmistress was informed about the issue, parents claimed.
