Kerala units of JD-U plan to part ways with national outfit

The Kerala unit of the Janata Dal (United) has decided to not be a part of the party in protest against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's decision to split from the 'Grand Alliance' and join hands with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

The party's state president and Rajya Sabha member M.P. Veerandra Kumar announced the decision at a news conference. He said that he expected Nitish Kumar to fight against racial tendencies in the country. "I appeal to Sharad Yadav and all MPs of the JD-U to fight back for the minorities, Dalits, oppressed caste. Now our resolution has been thrown in the dustbin. I called upon Sharad Yadav to stand up and say I won't accept it" he said after a meeting with Sharad Yadav.

He even lamented the Centre's intervention in the issue. "Government interference is becoming shocking" he said.

Kumar added that he will go back and call a party council to plan out the party's future. He said, "I will resign if I have to. But I will fight against these racist powers".

This comes after Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar with BJP leader Sushil Modi being sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister. He has formed an alliance with the National democratic Alliance (NDA) to form the new government of Bihar.

Earlier on Wednesday, Nitish Kumar resigned as the Chief Minister of Bihar and broke away from the Grand Alliand with RJD.
