Amit Shah, a close aide of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and national general secretary of the BJP, began his innings as the party's in-charge for Uttar Pradesh from today.
During his three-day state visit, Shah will meet party workers and chalk out future programmes and strategy.
According to television reports, Shah will meet senior party leader Lalji Tandon and Vinay Katiyar at their residences and Keshari Nath Tripathy at the party office.
Shah's Lucknow tour was supposed to be a one-day affair initially. Later, he extended his stay to assess the party's position in the crucial state, which sends 80 members to the Lok Sabha.
